If your mind doesn’t automatically go to Reactoonz when you hear the phrase “grid game” then you have surely been living under a rock for the past 3 years. Reactoonz exploded onto our screens back in 2017, and for some of us (Hideous) it’s felt like a long hard battle to try and achieve the coveted 15 pinks. For others, Reactoonz is a staple of their online slot diet, consistently providing entertainment with some decent hits along the way. Play’n GO can, and should, be extremely proud of what they achieved with Reactoonz, which could be why they have made their latest decision – to bring us Reactoonz 2. That’s right, those googly eyed, squealing, tilting little monsters are bursting back onto our screens in Autumn 2020, and we can’t wait to see what they bring. Reactoonz 2 retains much of what the original offered, with some interesting tweaks and upgrades, and a new max win of 3000x your bet. Lower than the original, yes, but definitely a win we wouldn’t turn our nose up at.

Paytable

The pay table will be the easiest part of this review to understand, because thankfully nothing has changed. Reactoonz 2 invites back the monsters we became so well acquainted with in the original, divided into two categories: one eyed monsters, and two eyed monsters. The one eyed monsters are yellow, red, green and purple, and the two eyed monsters, which are premium symbols, are orange, blue, green and pink. As always, the pink monsters are the top paying symbol.
Wins are achieved by matching 5 or more adjacent symbols horizontally or vertically, and winning symbols are removed, with new symbols falling down in their place. Wins continue to grow in value depending on the amount of symbols you match, starting at 3x your bet, up to 500x your bet. The premium symbol paying 500x bet rather than the 750x bet we were awarded in the original could be explained by the array of extra modifiers available in Reactoonz 2. Not forgetting, of course, that with the Gargantoon Wild wins can be multiplied by x2, and the maximum win potential is still a whopping 3000x your bet.

Gameplay

Reactoonz 2 is a 7×7 grid game, just like it’s predecessor, featuring cascading style wins and various modifiers. As expected, the game play is similar to the original, featuring meters which offer better modifiers the more they are charged. Alongside the meter to release Gargantoon, which we all remember, there is a new Fluctometer. With each new spin, one of the one eyed monsters (yellow, green, red or purple) is chosen to fluctuate. If a win is achieved, an Electric Wild will drop down as part of the new cascade, and the Fluctometer will fill. There are 11 spaces on the Fluctometer, and once full, 1-3 Electric Wilds will be added to the grid. The Fluctometer can continually recharge, but will be disabled should you charge the second meter enough to get good old Garga out. Electric Wilds substitute all symbols, and charge the second meter known as the Quantumeter, with each symbol removed by the Electric Wilds being worth one charge on the Quantumeter. Wilds do not contribute towards this charge.

Bonus

As with the original, there is technically no bonus on Reactoonz 2. However, most players will continue until they achieve Gargantoon, the large 3×3 wild. The charge meter works slightly differently in this new adaption, and follows a more strict regime. As the Quantumeter reaches 55, four Energoon Wilds will appear in the grid, each 1×1 in size. At 85 charges, one 2×2 Energoon Wild will appear. If you reach 110 charges, a large 3×3 Gargantoon Wild will appear in the grid. Just like in Reactoonz, after using the 3×3 wild, the Gargantoon Wild will then break down into two 2×2 Wilds, and then nine individual 1×1 wilds.
The Quantumeter will continue to charge after releasing Energoon Wilds, but once a Gargantoon Wild is achieved it will stop. This means that once 110 charges are achieved the meter will not continue to charge. However, if 135 wilds are achieved before the charges stop you will have reached the final level, and your 3×3 Gargantoon Wild will come with a x2 attached, multiplying any and all wins achieved with each of the three stages of Gargantoon Wilds by two.
If you have finished working your way through these features, and you have 2 or more electric wilds remaining within the grid, the Wild Pair Explosion is triggered. All symbols except wilds will be removed from the grid, provided both wilds are adjacent to each other. If the wilds are separate, any symbols between the two, along with any adjacent to those, are destroyed. Again, this excludes wilds. These symbols do not pay a win, but will charge the Quantumeter, so there is a chance of a shot at double Gargy!

My Thoughts

Reactoonz is a slot that we believe will always be a fan favourite. It’s fun, keeps you interested, and pays some pretty amazing wins out, which is what made it an instant classic upon release. It was hard to see how it could be made better, but we suspect Reactoonz 2 will do it. This isn’t just like other slots that have a makeover and slap a “2” on the end, there’s a new and improved system in place during this slot, which brings an exciting feel to an older slot. The max win and RTP are smaller, but we’re still expecting to see some huge wins, and don’t doubt that it will be very popular upon release.
