Hacksaw Gaming have dipped their toes back into the world of the sweet-based themed slots, an area they have gone to before with the likes of Tasty Treats, with Jelly Slice.

In comparison to some of the crazy reel arrays Hacksaw have produced previously, Jelly Slice looks fairly timid. It’s a 5 reel 4 row grid, which appears to possibly be set in a sweet shop. A female assistant is one side of the reels with a clipboard on the other side which counts your wins. It almost gives the impression that the clipboard is collecting your order as the wins jump across from the reels.

The game runs RTP versions from 88.28% up to 96.24% with a max win of 10,000x.

All ways pay, giving a total of 1,024 potential pay lines, so three matching symbols pay from left to right. Low paying symbols are the standard 10’s through to A’s, paying 0.2x to 1x, and higher paying symbols being various coloured jellies, paying from 0.5x up to 10x.

Each win cascades to enable further wins.

The game also has a ‘slicer’ mechanic, where a slice will appear on the reels and any symbols underneath are split by the number on the slice; land a few of those near the top of the reels and you massively increase the number of ways and thus the potential for big wins.

Bonushunt Featurespins

One of Hacksaws more recent additions to games has been the Bonushunt Feature Spins, something that has been developed with the streaming community in mind.

For a cost of 3x the bet you are 5x more likely to land a bonus.

Slicer Featurespins

At a cost of 20x your bet, you can activate the Slicer feature; guaranteeing at least one slicer to land on the reels.

Hacksaw are renowned for two things, one being high volatility and the other being their feature spins. This is probably one of the most volatile feature spins I have come across and this comes from a game itself which, unlike most Hacksaws, is quite low volatile (which we will touch upon shortly). It’s certainly not for the faint hearted!

Jelly Slice Bonus

The bonus is triggered with the traditional “landing scatters” method, with 5 scatters triggering 5 free spins, up to 20 scatters for 20 free spins. Scatters can land underneath the slice and be split to help reach those numbers of scatters.

Free spins are then played out in the same manner as the base game, just with the addition of a higher chance of slices landing on the reels.

Each additional scatter that lands in the bonus awards an extra free spin.

The bonus can be purchased, where allowed, at a cost of 100x your bet. There is no Super Buy option.

First Impression

As has been the case with a few recent Hacksaw releases, the volatility isn’t what many have become accustomed to with their games. That said it’s not necessarily a bad thing, there is enough Chaos Crews for everyone so why not add a game for a different audience.

That said it does feel like Hacksaw have missed a trick in not adding a super bonus to Jelly Slice. A bonus with Sticky Slicers, or Slicers that increased per spin could have easily been added to help give Jelly Slice the excitement of some of its brothers and sisters. The Featurespins are extremely volatile however so, should that be what you want, then that’s where to go.

Jelly Slice certainly isn’t a bad game in any way, just different, and more choice is surely better for the community as a whole. Overall whilst the jelly may be wobbly, this is a pretty solid addition to the Hacksaw portfolio.
