Viking’s Legacy is Red Tigers’ second ‘Everyway’ slot following on from Sugarlicious Everyway, with the Everyway mechanic essentially being a scatter pay slot. Eight of the same symbols anywhere on the reels pay, with lower paying symbols being the standard 10s-As and higher paying symbols being pictures in line with the theme, viking horns etc. Where the Everyway mechanic differs from other scatter pay slots is that where the symbols land does affect the resulting pay. For example, if you land two As on reels 1,2,3 and 4 that is paid as 16 ways (2x2x2x2) whereas if you land four As on reel 1, two on reel 2 followed by one on reels 3 and 4 that is only 8 ways (4x2x1x1) leading to different returns from the same number of symbols.

Base Game and Features

As mentioned the game has Red Tiger’s Everyway mechanic, which means symbols pay as scatter pays. Each win cascades to give the opportunity for follow-on wins, with wilds able to land reels 3 and 4. The wild symbol comes with two lives, meaning that it remains in place for two wins before disappearing. Each scatter that lands adds life on to a wild, which is a nice way of giving the value of the scatter even without hitting the bonus round.

The game also possesses a win trail which is initiated when a win with a wild takes place. The first step of this expands the wild, a particularly powerful feature as the expanded wild means you then only need four of a symbol to connect to it to provide a win. Further wins then add a x2 multiplier, followed by a x3 multiplier and finally the removal of the 10, J, and Q symbols. Progression up this trail can award some really nice base wins to help maintain that balance.

Free Spins Bonus Round

The free spins are triggered by landing three scatter symbols, these are only present on reels 1,2,4 and 5. No additional spins are awarded for landing 4. The bonus starts with 3 free spins, however each spin without a win awards an additional spin. The bonus round is played out in the same manner as the base game, other than that the win trail is already at the end with low paying symbols removed. Each win adds one to a progressive multiplier that remains throughout the bonus. Free spins can be re-triggered which is valuable in helping to build that multiplier.

Two Wild Feature Buy

The game has a feature whereby you can purchase two wilds at the cost of 40x your bet. This is quite a fun little option that Red Tiger have introduced, but a word of

Should you land a win on the original drop down then further wins will follow as when two wilds expand you already have eight symbols so you clear the screen. Land any scatters and then wins can really take off, as the wilds gain lives and move you up the win trail. Miss during the original drop down? That’s 40x gone.

First Impression

It’s nice to see Red Tiger persist with the Everyway mechanic, it’s hard to keep coming up with new innovations in the current market so any attempt to do so should be applauded.

Overall the game plays nicely in the base and the two wild feature buy is a really fun option should it be available in your region. Viking’s Legacy is somewhat let down by its bonus round however, simply three winning spins don’t seem to be enough to get towards big win potential. That is a shame but it doesn’t make the game unplayable in any way whatsoever, it certainly has some Nordic fun to it.
