Things are pretty much what you’d expect in Cash Lab Megaways. We’re in a laboratory, with a scientist to the left of the reels and the usual stuff floating around – cogs, strange looking liquids, remote controls, batteries, and some levers. You know, the stuff you’d normally find in a lab – well, at least the comical idea of a lab, rather than a legitimate one. Reels are a deep purple which helps them to stand out, and finally an upbeat, slightly chaotic soundtrack comes in to help tie everything together. Overall, it’s pretty nice.

Taking place across 6 reels, wins are formed on Cash Lab Megaways by matching at least 2 or 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel. Above the reels are two additional trackers – the top and bottom tracker. Each of these trackers can add one more symbol to reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 – one above and one below. Including the top and bottom tracker, these reels can hold a maximum of 8 symbols each, with up to 7 symbols possible on reels 1 and 6, producing a total of 200,704 ways to win. Symbols available begin with non premiums, with 9s, 10s, Js, Qs, Ks, and As, awarding wins between 0.05 and 0.10x bet for 3 of a kind matches, increasing to values between 0.40 and 0.75x bet for 6 of a kind matches. At the premium end, we have four gems, beginning with purple, green, and blue. Land 3 of a kind of any of these premiums to see wins between 0.15 and 0.40x bet, increasing to values between 1 and 3x bet for 6 of a kind wins. The highest paying symbol is the red gem, which is also the only one to pay for 2 of a kind. Land 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 of a kind red gems to see wins of 0.25, 0.75, 1.25, 2.50, or 5x bet, respectively. Finally, there are two Wild symbols available – a regular Wild and a Gold Wild, both of which substitute for all symbols except Bonus symbols.

There are a few features to cover in Cash Lab Megaways, beginning with cascades. On every spin, all symbols involved in a win will be removed from the reels. All remaining symbols will then drop to the bottommost available position on their respective reels, with new symbols dropping in from above to fill any remaining gaps. Symbols will move to the left and then fill in from the right hand side on the top and bottom tracker. During cascades, ways to win are fixed. Cascades continue until no more wins are formed.

Alongside Wild symbols substituting for all symbols except Bonus symbols, they can also trigger the Wild Link and Gold Link features:

• Wild Link Feature – land a regular Wild on the top and bottom tracker on the same reel to activate Wild Link, wherein all symbols on the reel will become Wild.
• Gold Link Feature – land a regular Wild on either the top or bottom tracker and a Gold Wild on either the top or bottom tracker on the same reel to upgrade Wild Link to Gold Link, wherein the reel will become a Wild reel and a random multiplier will be applied. The multiplier will always be higher than the total number of symbols on the reel, including trackers.

Finally, on any spin, Max Megaways can be randomly triggered. When this happens, the maximum number of symbols will land on each reel, producing 200,704 ways to win.

Land 4, 5, or 6 Bonus symbols to trigger 10, 15, or 20 Free Spins, respectively. During Free Spins, an increasing multiplier is active. The multiplier will begin at x1, and increment by +x1 for every cascade. Alongside this, every Free Spins round will start with one sticky Wild symbol on the top tracker. If the Wild forms a Wild or Gold Link feature or is involved in a win, it will be removed from the reels, reappearing in the next spin.

Throughout the feature, special symbols can appear – L, I, N, and K. These symbols are collected and stored above the reels. Each time four symbols have been collected, they form the word LINK, and one more sticky Wild is added to either the top or bottom tracker. The tracker chosen will be the opposite from the one to which the last sticky Wild was added. An additional +2 spins are also awarded. Special symbols can be activated multiple times, and do not pay in any winning combinations. It is possible to land multiple special symbols per spin.

Players in appropriate regions can take advantage of the Buy Bonus option for a cost of 100x bet. It is possible to land either 4, 5, or 6 Bonus symbols when using Buy Bonus.

The maximum win available in Cash Lab Megaways is 20,000x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end and 20,000x bet will be awarded.

First Impression

There’s plenty happening in Cash Lab Megaways – some of it new, some of it established and already proven to be popular. First of all, the Megaways mechanic itself adds the regular excitement you’d expect, although this is increased slightly with a potential total of 200,704 ways to win, rather than the more common 117,649. In the base game cascades, Wild Link, Gold Link, and Max Megaways spins help to keep things ticking over.

In Free Spins though, players get to see a different side to this release through the collection of special symbols to trigger sticky Wilds. Don’t forget, Wilds form Wild Link and Gold Link, so sticky Wilds are crucial to these goals. Alongside this, an increasing multiplier provides the normal Megaways standard, with no upper limit to how high the multiplier can climb. When the right combinations land, wins are possible up to 20,000x bet.

Finally, maths is highly volatile, and RTP is fixed at 96.0%. And that’s it. I don’t think there’s enough in Cash Lab Megaways to attract players who haven’t been drawn to the typical Megaways release in the past, but if you are a fan there’s a few extra tweaks here to make things exciting.
