On the reels it’s a combination of liquor, food and expensive jewellery, alongside our ape character, a banana and a black hole. I can’t help but feel that if I knew anything about NFTs this would all make more sense to me, but even that might not be true.

It’s all finished off with an upbeat, electronic soundtrack. All in all, it can leave you feeling a bit puzzled, so best to just sit back and accept what this team have put together.

Taking place across 6 reels, wins are formed on Wild Ape #3258 by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel. Each reel can hold up to 6 symbols, except the middle two reels which can hold 5, producing a maximum of 32,400 ways to win.

Symbols available begin with non premiums, with 10s, Js, Qs, Ks and As, awarding wins between 0.50 and 2x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind.

Premiums consist of bananas, pizza, glasses of whiskey, bottles of liquor and solid gold watches. Land 3 of a kind of any premium to see wins between 4 and 10x bet, increasing to values between 10 and 25x bet for 5 of a kind matches.

The highest paying symbol is the multicoloured gold crown, awarding wins between 20 and 75x bet, again for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind. Finally, Wild symbols are available on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 to substitute for all symbols except Scatter symbols.

Cascades

There are a couple of different features to cover in Wild Ape #3258, but we’ll start with cascades first.

On every spin, all symbols involved in a winning combination will be removed from the reels, and all remaining symbols will drop down to the bottommost available position on their respective reels.

New symbols will then drop in from above to fill the remaining gaps, with cascades continuing until no new wins are formed.

Symbols in this release are similar to Megaways symbols in that they can land in a variety of heights (between 1 and 3 symbol spaces tall) but will only ever count for one symbol.

Any new symbols dropping in from above will be the same height as the symbol they replace.

Wild Transformation

Next up is Wild Transformation, which can occur on any spin in the base game or Free Spins.

On any spin, symbols in reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 may have a gold frame around them.

If a gold-framed symbol is involved in a winning combination, it will transform into a Wild symbol for the next cascade.

Wild symbols and Scatter symbols cannot have gold frames.

In the centre of reels 3 and 4 there is a 2×2 Wild Bored Ape symbol.

This symbol is deactivated at the start of every spin, locked by two padlocks.

If a win occurs in the first symbol drop, a padlock is removed. If a win then occurs in the second symbol drop the second padlock is removed, and the Wild Bored Ape symbol is activated for the third symbol drop.

The Wild Bored Ape symbol is a Wild symbol that substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.

Once it has been activated, the Wild Bored Ape symbol gains a multiplier of x2, which increases by +2 after every win in subsequent cascades.

The Wild Bored Ape symbol will be deactivated ahead of the next paid spin.

Land 4 Scatter symbols to trigger 10 Free Spins, plus an additional +2 spins for every Scatter beyond the fourth.

During Free Spins the Wild Bored Ape symbol will always be activated.

The Wild Bored Ape symbol starts the Free Spins round with a x2 multiplier, which increases by +2 after every win in subsequent cascades.

The Wild Bored Ape multiplier does not reset between spins.

Land 4 or more Scatter symbols to retrigger Free Spins and be awarded additional spins.

The maximum win available in Wild Ape #3258 is 10,000x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end and 10,000x bet will be awarded.

First Impression

Things are relatively straightforward in this release, but that doesn’t mean they don’t pack a punch. At its core, Wild Ape #3258 is an example of how you can take something as simple as Wild symbols and enhance them enough to get an entire game out of them.

In the base game, it’s cascades, Wild Transformation, Wild Bored Apes and increasing multipliers all working hand in hand to help things feel exciting, aided by an interesting (albeit slightly confusing) setting and an intense soundtrack.

Free Spins carry on the same features in the same way, except multipliers do not reset between spins and Wild Bored Apes are always active, which certainly helps things to feel much more exciting. When the right combinations occur, wins are possible up to 10,000x bet.

Finally, maths is highly volatile and RTP is fixed at 96.74%, so no complaints there – and no complains about the fact that PG Soft are offering desktop versions as well as the mobile versions of their games now.

There isn’t much more to say on this one; if you’re looking for an interesting setting with simple mechanics and impressive win potential, Wild Ape #3258 is as good a choice as any.
