It's that time of the year again; frost is starting to form, Christmas lights are twinkling and the smell of cinnamon follows you everywhere you go – from candles, lattes and potpourri.
More importantly though, it's around this time that we get a glimpse into the views of players across the iGaming sector as many websites, including ours, host awards, giving their community a chance to vote for their favourites from the year past.
It's always interesting to see how, in spite of a natural overlap in viewers and readers, each community often ends up with different winners at the end of the year, and 2023 has been no exception.
Expanding on our 2022 awards where Big Bamboo came out on top, this year we gave our voters options in two categories – Game Studio of the Year and Slot of the Year.
After a stellar year for the team at Print Studios, they got to show us once again just how many heads they've turned, taking home the trophy (implied, no real trophy provided) in both categories.
Game Studio of the Year 2023
As our new category, we offered players a choice of 18 game studios to choose from in the quest to find the Game Studio of the Year 2023, and it didn't take long for the winners to storm ahead.
Print Studios took first place with 17.9% of votes, proving that their unique and unconventional approach to online slots is working. With highly volatile maths models and art that stands out against a sea of competitors, Print Studios are becoming a studio with a reputation that precedes them.
Hacksaw Gaming and Big Time Gaming came in second and third place with 13.2% and 11.1% of votes respectively, whilst ELK Studios and Nolimit City tied for fourth place, both with 10.2% of votes.
Other honourable mentions go to Relax Gaming with 7.7% of votes, and Push Gaming, 4ThePlayer and Pragmatic Play, with around 6% of votes each.
Slot of the Year 2023
Slot of the Year made a comeback this year, and it was a clear victory for Holy Hand Grenade, which took first place with 29.8% of the votes.
Combining a very simple mystery symbol reveal with intense audiovisuals, a fun theme and sounds that keep you engaged, Holy Hand Grenade quickly made its way to the top of viewer request lists after its release in March 2023.
And it doesn't seem like its popularity is going to slow any time soon, so we might find that this release becomes a modern day classic, joining the likes of Jammin' Jars and Danger! High Voltage.
Money Train 4 was in second place with 11.1% of votes, whilst Pirots, Book of Power and Le Bandit took third, fourth and fifth place with 9.8%, 8.5% and 6% of votes respectively.
Additional mentions in this category go to Hacksaw Gaming's Drop ‘Em and Push Gaming's Razor Returns.
