Interview with Lloyd Roberts
Now Slammer Studios are joining in the fun as they bring us Mystic Multipliers – a captivating adventure that promises enchantment, enhancers and a magical druid to help you on your way.
We sat down with Lloyd Roberts, Head of Studio at Slammer Studios, to chat to him and find out some more about this release.

Mystic Multipliers Base Game
Aisley: Firstly, congratulations on the new release of Mystic Multipliers! Could you tell us what brought on the inspiration?
Lloyd: Thank you! Mystic Multipliers was inspired by the excitement and potential of scatter-pays mechanics and progressive multipliers.
We wanted to create a game where every spin feels dynamic and rewarding, with frequent wins and the thrill of increasing multipliers. The mystical Druid theme adds an immersive touch, making gameplay visually captivating while serving as a great vehicle for feature delivery.
As always, our goal was to blend fast-paced action, big win potential, and stunning design into a thrilling slot experience.
Aisley: There seems to be a real increase in the popularity of scatter-pays slots currently. Why do you think this specific model of gaming is proving so popular?
Lloyd: The popularity of scatter-pays slots comes from their dynamic gameplay and frequent wins, as players can win regardless of paylines.
Adding a progressive multiplier system and lots of random triggered rewards, like in our game, enhances the excitement – each consecutive win increases the multiplier, creating bigger payout potential and sustained engagement.
This fast-paced, rewarding experience keeps players entertained, making scatter-pays and progressive multipliers a good formula for a great gaming experience.

Aisley: Before we get into the core gameplay, how important is it to get the overall visuals and aesthetics of a game right and how do you personally feel this affects the potential success of a new release?
Lloyd: Getting the visuals and aesthetics right is crucial for a game’s success. Attractive, immersive design helps create an emotional connection with players and sets the tone for the experience.
Strong visuals not only make the game stand out in a crowded market but also enhance engagement and communicate the theme and mechanics clearly, playing a key role in a new release's potential success.
Aisley: Mystic Multipliers contains a really healthy batch of in-game features, from progressive multipliers to random game round enhancers. Can you give details as to how you narrow down an almost bottomless pot of potential ideas into the final line-up?
Lloyd: When creating the feature set for Mystic Multipliers, we started with the mechanics – specifically the progressive multiplier system. This mechanic naturally fosters a sense of escalating rewards, so we built additional features to enhance and support that progression.
The theme then evolves from these mechanics, with elements like Druid magic seamlessly aligning with the idea of growing power and potential. By focusing on the gameplay and ensuring the features complement the multiplier system, we create a cohesive experience where the mechanics drive the theme, making it both natural and immersive.
Getting the visuals and aesthetics right is crucial for a game’s success.
Aisley: Focusing a little more on the Progressive Multiplier feature, a popular theme in the market is a multiplier that increases with every win or cascade. With Mystic Multipliers, each stage must be unlocked by a number of winning cascades. How do you feel this will impact the potency of the feature in comparison to similar-style games already out there?
Lloyd: The unlockable progression system in Mystic Multipliers adds a fun twist to the multiplier feature.
Instead of simply increasing with every win or cascade, players need to unlock each stage through a series of winning cascades. This approach creates a layered sense of excitement, as each new stage offers a more potent multiplier, making the feature feel more dynamic.
The gradual unlocking also ensures that the progression doesn’t feel too predictable, keeping the gameplay fresh and maintaining player engagement as they work their way toward bigger rewards.

Aisley: Entering the Free Spins bonus round, it’s clear that the game progresses through enhanced features not available during base gameplay. In your opinion, how much should a bonus game mode differ from a base game mode to get the balance right between progression and potential without losing the core elements of the overall feel for the game?
Lloyd: The key to balancing the base game and bonus mode is keeping the gameplay exciting while maintaining that familiar feel. The bonus round should introduce unique features or potential that enhance the experience, but still feel like a natural extension of the base game, rather than a complete shift.
In Mystic Multipliers, the bonus round builds on the multiplier progression from the main game, adding more ways to boost rewards while preserving the core mechanics and enhancing the multiplier potential.
The goal is to elevate the gameplay without losing its essence, offering players the perfect balance of progression and excitement.
Aisley: There will be players out there wondering just how difficult it is to achieve that top level multiplier value, be it x50 or x500, during Free Spins. Can you detail what factors must be considered with regard to overall volatility levels when designing games such as Mystic Multipliers?
Lloyd: When designing a game like Mystic Multipliers, achieving the right balance between rewards and volatility is crucial. The top-level multiplier, whether it’s x50 or x500, should feel like a significant achievement, but it’s important to consider how difficult it should be to reach that level without making it feel unattainable.
A locked progression round allows players to gradually unlock higher multiplier values, but this must be balanced with the overall volatility of the game.
Higher multipliers can increase the potential for big rewards, but they also increase the risk, which is where volatility comes in. We need to ensure the game feels exciting and rewarding, while still offering players a fair chance to reach those top levels.
It’s all about balancing frequent wins with the occasional big payout, so players feel like they’re progressing toward those higher rewards without feeling frustrated by too much risk.
The goal is to elevate the gameplay without losing its essence, offering players the perfect balance of progression and excitement.
Aisley: Are there any features or mechanics that didn’t quite make the final cut in Mystic Multipliers and, if so, what were they and could these potentially be included in a future release?
Lloyd: We went through several stages of balancing the mechanics for Mystic Multipliers, especially when it came to the difficulty of balancing rewards with the progressive multiplier system.
While we didn’t drop any major mechanics, we did experiment with a few ideas that didn’t quite make the final cut. Some of these concepts, such as additional bonus round features or more complex progression systems, were adjusted to maintain the right balance between excitement and fairness.
As for future releases, there’s always potential to revisit some of these ideas. We’re constantly exploring ways to evolve gameplay and could definitely incorporate these features down the line if they fit naturally within the game’s design.
Aisley: Mystic Multipliers follows on from your most recent release of Magawa VS Mines; 2 very different themed games yet both taking the form of a grid-game model. Do you feel like grid games are your specialist style going forward or might we see a more diverse range of titles coming our way?
Lloyd: While Mystic Multipliers and Magawa VS Mines both follow the grid-game model, we’re definitely not limiting ourselves to just one style going forward.
Our goal is to offer a diverse range of mechanics that can be enjoyed across different platforms, especially mobile, where players expect both variety and innovation.
We’ll continue to explore different types of gameplay experiences, ensuring that we offer something for everyone—whether it's grid-based mechanics or entirely different models. The key is to deliver engaging, fun experiences that suit various playstyles, so players can expect a lot of exciting variety in our upcoming titles.

Aisley: Can you tell us your favourite aspect about Mystic Multipliers and how that may influence thoughts and ideas going forward?
Lloyd: One of my favourite features in Mystic Multipliers is the combination of the random wild drop and the locked reel expansion as you build toward a big multiplier. The wild drop adds an element of unpredictability, while the locked reel expansion significantly increases the sense of potential.
These mechanics work together to create a thrilling experience where each spin feels full of possibility. This mix of randomness and progression will definitely inspire future games, as we explore more ways to enhance excitement and rewarding gameplay.
Aisley: Thank you for taking the time to share some of your thoughts behind what is hopefully going to be a very popular release in Mystic Multipliers. Just before we finish, would you like to offer some insight as to how you see 2025 panning out for Slammer Studios?
Lloyd: Thank you! As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to continue expanding our portfolio with a diverse range of innovative games. We’ll be focusing on enhancing player engagement through unique mechanics and immersive experiences, while also looking to refine and evolve what we’ve learned from Mystic Multipliers.
It’s going to be a year full of exciting releases, and we’re committed to pushing boundaries and delivering games that players will love.
