Blazin’ hot 7s trail: Mighty Ways is a release by Light & Wonder that is off to a great start in that it combines two of their most popular series. The Blazin’ Hot series has been popular right from the original Blazin’ Hot 7s to last years release Blazin’ Hot 7s wonder 500.

The Mighty Ways series including Cluedo Mighty Ways and 300 Shields Mighty Ways has been another loved addition to Light & Wonder’s portfolio, so combining these two must be a wonderful starting point for the game.

The game is played on a 6 reel 3 row grid with all ways paying, 729 ways to be exact. Each win cascades and increases the ways (the mighty ways mechanic) until no further wins are available. The symbols are classic images which will be familar to anybody who started out playing pub ‘fruitys’. The fruits are the lower paying symbol ranging from cherries up to watermelon with a pays from 0.05x up to 0.9x per way.

The high value symbols are bars up to red 7s, with the pays from 0.2x up to 10x. The classic graphics and crisp soundtrack help to engross the player into the experience. The game operates with a generous 95.98% RTP.

Light & Wonder have already used the mighty ways mechanic to give three of their other series (namely Cluedo, Raging Rhino and 300 shields) a new lease of life and it’s been no surprise what a success they have been. Each win leads to a cascade with the ways expanding on each reel that cascades up to a maximum of 8 symbols per reel. The exciting thing about this feature is that any spin can suddenly change.

A minimum win of just 3 cherries can cascade down and become a huge win, or even trigger a bonus, keeping you engaged throughout.

That combined with the wilds gives this game a truly exhilarating and suspense-filled base game. One other feature of the base game is what happens when you land two scatters. The game has two trails, a bonus and a super bonus trail. Every time you land two scatters a wheel spin takes place that awards 1,2 or 3 steps along the one of the bonus trails. Once the trail is filled the bonus round is triggered.

Three bonus symbols trigger the bonus round with 5 free spins. Additional scatters trigger additional free spins up to a maximum of 12. The bonus round free spins play out on the same reels as the base game, with a couple of additional features.

The super bonus plays out in an almost identical way but starts with a 5x multiplier and goes up to 50x.

First Impression

Combining two popular themes was always likely to be a winning formula for Light & Wonder, and the results would certainly seem to prove so. The Mighty Ways mechanic combined with the wild multipliers certainly gives the game an exciting feel and demonstrates its high potential.

Collecting enough scatters to reach the high multipliers does seem difficult, particularly when starting a bonus round with no additional scatters. However, the bonus does seem to land frequently enough and along with the base game wins it can pay enough for you not to need that one massive hit.

Whilst not having any new and revolutionary features, it does what it sets out to do exceptionally well. Light & Wonder has masterfully combined two popular themes and any player who has previously enjoyed either of them will surely do so again.
