Relax Gaming have an impressive catalogue of slots under their belt, and they don’t tend to be known for any particular mechanic. Instead, the visual elements of their slots are what set them apart, often opting for a cartoon-esque look: immediately recognisable once you’ve played a few of these games. This year, they’re bringing us a new release – Top Dawg$, which has recently been used to draw our attention to some important issues, that “An Adopted Dog Is a Top Dawg”, encouraging players to adopt a shelter pet. With an RTP of 96.10%, and a maximum win of 25,000x bet, this high volatility slot packs a punch with a dash of fun.
Top Dawg$ takes place on a 5×3 reel base, with 15 fixed lines. A purple, hazy sky sits atop a lone road with a few palm trees, and smooth hip hop plays in the background. Perhaps this is to tie in with the embellishments our canine characters have been provided, which brings the entire thing together in a way not immediately recognisable or creditable to a particular era, but distinctive enough to remember.
The payable consists of J, Q, K and As, all paying 0.5x bet and 2x bet for 3 and 5 of a kind respectively. These low paying symbols have been given a graffiti styling, whilst still remaining true to the cartoon graphics Relax Gaming usually opt for. At the higher end of the pay table, we have four different dogs which have been given a hip hop styling. Premium symbols pay from 3-5 of a kind, rewarding players between 15 and 30x bet for 5 of a kind. The gold and silver wild symbol also pays 30x bet for 5 of a kind, and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter symbol, represented by a purple car with the word “BONUS” across the top.
Top Dawg$ Base Features
Top Dawg$ offers a Mystery Re-spin during base play, which is more or less where the magic stops. This is a slot which packs all its’ potential into the bonus feature, but the mystery re-spin is a good way to break up the monotony. When a mystery symbol, distinguishable as a green question mark, lands on reel 5, the mystery re-spins feature is triggered. In a style we’ve seen many times before, re-spins continue for as long as mystery symbols continue to land. Once no mystery symbol lands during a re-spin, the feature ends, and all mystery symbols in view reveal the same symbol.
Top Dawg$ Bonus
Landing 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels awards 8, 10 and 12 free spins respectively, which is where Top Dawg$ starts to show what it is capable of. All wilds that land on the reels during free spins are sticky, and landing any additional scatter symbols adds +1 to the free spins remaining, and +1 to the multiplier of every sticky wild on the reels. Each wild can gain a multiplier as high as x7, and multipliers multiply each other when they work together in a win, giving the potential for some huge wins, which is where we see how a 25,000x win is possible.
A feature buy is available to players in appropriate regions, for a cost of 90x bet.
First Impression
Top Dawg$ is certainly a simple game, but often the most simple games receive the most love from players. If the foundation of a game is enough, sometimes the bells and whistles are unnecessary. Relax Gaming have presented something here that is clean, bright and a lot of fun. The free spins feature with sticky multiplying wilds is something we have seen before, but it hits the mark. Whilst exploring the game, we were able to land over 100x in the bonus by having 3 wilds, two of which contained multipliers. This is a testament to the wins that are possible within this slot if you get enough wilds to line up in a promising way. Overall, Top Dawg$ offers players some huge wins, a slightly cheaper than average Feature Buy (with an increased RTP of 96.71% during the buy), and a solid audio background. Bonus points for using dogs too, because who doesn’t love dogs?
