Back again with another release from the team at Reel Kingdom. I bet you can’t guess what it’s called? Alright, if you guessed the words ‘big’ or ‘bass’ would be in the title you’d be right – but since this is the eleventh release in the series, your guess becomes distinctly less impressive.
Yes that’s right, it’s time for another journey into the water with Pragmatic Play partner Reel Kingdom, and this time they’re getting into the spooky spirit and reminding us that Halloween is just around the corner. We’ve had two Christmas releases from this team before in Christmas Big Bass Bonanza and Bigger Bass Blizzard, but this is our first foray into the fearful season. So let’s leave behind Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways and say hello to Big Bass Halloween – with a nice tagline ‘something wicked this way swims’.
With RTP options available up to 96.06%, this medium (4/5) volatility release can produce wins up to 2,100x bet.
There probably isn’t going to be a great deal to say on this release that you haven’t heard before, and that includes in visuals. We find ourselves under another body of water today – on this occasion it looks to be a lake on a dreary night with a sweeping forest to the righthand side. The usual coral, plant life and rocks sit beneath the surface, alongside the reels – upon which we do have a slightly different set of symbols this time around.
We’ve traded in a couple of the usual suspects (fishing rods and dragonflies) for a more apt raven that seems to have eaten the dragonfly, and a hook, so that’s a slightly new twist. Other than that everything is very much what we’re used to, although splattered with some blood and stitches. Oh, and our fisherman is looking more deranged than ever – maybe life at sea is finally getting to him. It’s all finished off with a suitable soundtrack – probably my favourite from the series so far.
Big Bass Halloween Base Features
Taking place across 5 reels, wins are formed on Big Bass Halloween by matching at least 2 or 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel, across 1 of 10 fixed win lines. Symbols available begin with non premiums, with 10s, Js, Qs, Ks and As, awarding wins between 0.50 and 10x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind. Fish Money symbols are up next, awarding wins of 1, 5 or 20x bet for 3, 4 or 5 of a kind matches respectively.
At the premium end we have tackle boxes, ravens and hooks. Land 3 of a kind of any premium to see wins between 2 and 3x bet, increasing to values between 50 and 100x bet for 5 of a kind matches. Finally, lifebuoy rings are the highest paying symbol and the only to pay for 2 of a kind, awarding wins between 0.50 and 200x bet for matches between 2 and 5 of a kind.
There’s really only one base game feature to cover in Big Bass Halloween, and it’s the Ante Bet. By betting an additional 50%, there are more Scatters added to the reels, therefore the chance of triggering Free Spins naturally is higher.
RTP does not change when using Ante Bet.
Fish Money Symbols
As mentioned, it is possible to land Fish Money symbols on the reels, awarding wins between 1 and 20x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind. However, each Money symbol will also take on a random cash value from a pre-defined set.
Possible Money symbol values are – 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 2,000x bet.
These values come into play during Free Spins.
Big Bass Halloween Bonus
Land 3 or more Scatters to trigger Free Spins.
- 3 Scatter symbols – 10 Free Spins
- 4 Scatter symbols – 15 Free Spins
- 5 Scatter symbols – 20 Free Spins
During free spins, the Fisherman symbol can land in view. On any spin, if this symbol lands, the values attached to any Fish Money symbols in view will be collected and awarded as a win.
Alongside this, Fisherman symbols are collected and added to the meter above the reels.
- Collect 4 Fisherman symbols – +10 free spins x2
- Collect 8 Fisherman symbols – +10 free spins x3
- Collect 12 Fisherman symbols – +10 free spins x10
After reaching x10, it is not possible to retrigger the feature any further.
Randomly, when a Fisherman symbol lands in view with no Fish Money symbols, it is possible for Fish Money symbols to appear in random positions.
Buy Free Spins
Finally, players in appropriate regions can fast track the action with the Buy Free Spins option, wherein for a cost of 100x bet, players can guarantee at least 3 Scatters will land.
RTP does not change when buying Free Spins.
The maximum win available in Big Bass Halloween is 2,100x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end and 2,100x bet will be awarded.
Like I said, there isn’t much to say on this release that you haven’t heard before. Big Bass Halloween offers us the usual assortment of features that we know to expect, with less bells and whistles than some previous releases in this series have had. There’s no additional base game features and no Free Spins enhancements, so this one is reserved for fans of the original who fancy a spooky twist on things, more or less.
Of course, if you’re new to this series you’ll soon find out why it has become so popular. Free Spins land on average 1 in 113 spins and when they do land, retriggers aid in collecting cash values with multipliers up to x10. That’s pretty much the gist of it – the majority of the popularity in this series has come from the maths model, with frequent Free Spins and fair maximum wins. When the right combinations occur in this release, wins are possible up to 2,100x bet.
Finally, maths is only rated medium (4/5) volatility this time around, and RTP options are available up to 96.06%, so as always it’s worth checking this. It’s simple – if you like the Big Bass series and want something to fit with this time of the year, Big Bass Halloween was made for you.
