Well, we’re in New York City today with the Statue of Liberty in the distance, but we’re not quite in the city centre. We’re slightly further out in Brooklyn, on the rooftop of a building. Graffiti has been sprayed on the side of an apartment block to the right, displaying Relax, NYC, HipHop 4 Life, and Brooklyn, whilst to the left we have the word Fluffy, so it’s safe to assume that the cats are the vandals. Around the staged-reels we have spotlights, speakers, microphones, a turntable of sorts, and a parental advisory sign, so I guess we’re here for some sort of hip-hop concert. Taking place across 5 reels, wins are formed on Fly Cats by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel, across 1 of 40 fixed win lines. Most of the Fly Cats base game action rests on one feature – Mystery Respins. On any spin, landing a Mystery symbol on the reels will trigger Mystery Respins, in which only Mystery symbols can land on the reels. Respins will continue for as long as Mystery symbols continue to land on the reels. Once no more Mystery symbols land, all those in view will reveal the same regular pay symbol and wins will be awarded.

The other obvious feature is the Dream Drop Bonus, which can be triggered randomly before any normal spin. When this feature has the potential to trigger a basketball net will appear in the middle of the screen. If the basketball misses, the spin continues as normal, but if the basketball goes into the net the Dream Drop Bonus is triggered.

Players are then taken to a new screen, where a number of golden spray paint cans sit in front of a brick wall with graffiti, with a basketball net behind. There are 15 cans in total. The aim is to select cans, which will reveal Jackpots. Once you have revealed 3 of the same Jackpot, its value will be awarded and the Dream Drop Bonus will end.

First Impression

There isn’t a huge amount in Fly Cats that is wholly unique, especially for fans of Top Dawg$, but there are some positives. Firstly, and in a completely unsurprising twist of fate, audio-visuals are fantastic – something the team at Relax always nail. Secondly, the mechanics on offer are tried and tested, proven to be enjoyed by a variety of players regardless of experience or budget. Dream Drop as an addition also helps to keep things interesting, especially with a Mega jackpot exceeding €6 million at the time of writing this.

Free Spins are where things are really exciting though, with Sticky Wilds and increasing multipliers up to x3. In Top Dawg$, these multipliers could climb as high as x7, so there has been a cut made there, resulting in a smaller win potential of 5,000x bet – 20,000x bet than the former. Still, nothing to turn your nose up at – or your whiskers.

Finally, maths is highly (5/5) volatile and RTP is fixed at 94.0%, albeit this does include the 12% jackpot contribution.
