More Unusual Suspects Base Game

Visually things have had an upgrade in More Unusual Suspects, which is exactly what we’d expect from a sequel. We find ourselves in a metropolitan city at night time, on the roof of a building looking out at the skyline in the distance; where lights flicker in buildings and police helicopters fly past. The whole thing has a deep blue hue to it, with a nice lilac sunset visible as your eyes travel further down.

Other than this, we look at the reels, which have a variety of crime-related symbols like handcuffs, dynamite and briefcases full of cash. A large vault sits on the left, above which we see jackpot values, and a progress bar sits above the reels – another new feature. It’s all finished off with a slightly jazzy soundtrack to tie it all together, with sounds of helicopters and sirens littered throughout.

More Unusual Suspects Base Features

Taking place across 5 reels, wins are formed on More Unusual Suspects by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel, across 1 of 20 fixed win lines. Symbols available begin with non premiums, with 10s, Js, Qs, Ks and As, awarding wins between 0.10 and 1x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind.

At the premium end we have handcuffs, guns and dynamite, awarding wins between 0.10 and 0.50x bet for 3 of a kind matches, increasing to values between 2 and 5x bet for 5 of a kind wins. Next, briefcases filled with cash are the highest paying symbol, awarding wins between 1 and 10x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind.

Finally, Wild symbols can appear in a couple of different forms, substituting for all symbols except Detective and Scatter symbols, and awarding wins between 2 and 20x bet for matches between 3 and 5 of a kind.

Golden Wild Symbols

There are a few different features to cover in More Unusual Suspects, starting with Wild symbols.

Wilds can land as normal, or as Golden Wild symbols.

When a Golden Wild symbol lands it will trigger the Exploding Wild Feature.

In the Exploding Wild Feature all Golden Wilds will spawn additional Wild symbols or another Golden Wild symbol, repeating the process.

Wild Sticky Frame

Each time a Wild symbol lands on the reels, it leaves behind a Sticky Frame.

This Sticky Frame will have a x1 multiplier, but if additional Sticky Frames overlap the multiplier will increase by +1 each time.

Sticky Frames can hold multipliers up to x5.

Detective Wild Bonus

When a Detective symbol lands on the reels, it populates all Sticky Frames with Wild symbols.

Any Sticky Frames will multipliers will apply their value to any win lines they take part in.

After this bonus, all Sticky Frames are removed from the reels.

Bonus Perk Bar

Each time 2 Scatters land in view, a token is added to the Bonus Perk Bar above the reels.

Once 5o tokens have been collected, the Bonus Perk Bar is filled.

This grants an extra Bonus Perk Pick at the start of Free Spins.

The Bonus Perk Bar will reset once the extra Bonus Perk Pick has been used.

The progress of the Bonus Perk Bar is stored per bet level.

Land Detective Symbols to Populate all Sticky Frames With Wild Symbols

Scatters Nudging Respin

Land 2 Scatters on the top 3 rows to trigger the Nudging Respin.

When this happens, any reels holding Scatters will nudge down one position and all other reels will respin.

This continues until a Scatter reaches the bottom row or 5 Scatters have landed.

After each respin, tokens are added to the Bonus Perk Bar.

Vault Jackpot Bonus

Symbols can land on the reels with a gold bar attached to them.

Each time this happens, the gold bar is added to the vault to the left of the reels.

Adding a gold bar to the vault can randomly trigger the Jackpot Bonus, in which players pick vaults to reveal 3 matching Jackpots and win the prize.

Possible Jackpots are:

• Mini – 20x bet
• Minor – 75x bet
• Major – 1,000x bet
• Grand – 5,000x bet

Only one prize can be awarded.

Collected gold bars are stored per bet level.

The Jackpot Bonus can be triggered in the base game or Free Spins.

Land 3, 4 or 5 Scatters to trigger the Big Boss Free Spins Bonus:

• 3 Scatters – 10 Free Spins

Bonus Perk Pick

Before starting Free Spins, players will be taken to the Bonus Perk Pick.

In this feature, players will see a line up of suspects and will pick suspects in turn to reveal the following modifiers:

• Boost Perk – unlocks the first Big Boss and awards +5 spins with a x2 multiplier.
• Extra 2 Spins Perk – awards an additional +2 spins.
• Extra Frames Perk – adds a random selection of Frames to the reels.
• Extra Wilds Perk – awards more Wild symbols.
• Extra Detectives Perk – awards more Detective symbols.
• No Perk – ends the suspects pick.

Any extra Bonus Perk Pick that has been collected will also be awarded.

Once No Perk has been selected Free Spins will begin.

Collect Detective Symbols During Free Spins to Increase Multipliers

During Free Spins, Wild symbols continue to add Sticky Frames to the reels.

The difference is that now any Detective symbols that land will populate the Sticky Frames with Wilds but will not remove them after.

Sticky Frames are persistent for the duration of spins.

Big Boss Bonus Trail

Additionally, every Detective symbol that lands will highlight one position on the Bonus Trail above the reels.

Each time 3 Detective symbols have been collected players will upgrade their Big Boss level:

In this spin a Detective symbol is guaranteed to land, populating any Sticky Frames on the reels.

Only one Getaway Spin can land per bonus.

Buy Bonus

Players in appropriate regions can skip straight to the action with two different Buy Bonus options:

• Gamble to win Free Spins (choose your own odds) – 10-90x bet

Tokens are not used when using either Buy Bonus option.

First Impression

Well, there’s certainly plenty happening in this one, so that was quite a lot of information to get through. Things can easily be split into three categories – those which we expect from any release in the Games Global portfolio, those which have carried over from the original Unusual Suspects, and those that are new. For the first in this list, it’s jackpot values up to 5,000x bet which can be triggered randomly from any spin in the base game or Free Spins.

Regarding things that have carried over, it’s Sticky Frames, Golden Wild symbols and bonus progression similar to that of the Big Bass Bonanza series. New elements really come into play during Free Spins, including the Bonus Perk Pick and the Getaway Spin, both of which exist to heighten excitement in the bonus. When the right combinations land, wins are possible up to 8,000x bet – a decrease from its predecessor, but still nothing to turn your nose up at.
