What’s one of your favourite past times as a child? For many of us, it might be going to the arcade, where you can play a variety of games in search of prizes like stuffed animals or just the glory of having the highest Pac-Man score of the week. Arcades are often considered a thing of the past now, with today’s children preferring to load up their Xbox over a game of Donkey Kong.

Forget iPads and PlayStations for now though, because Big Time Gaming are taking us to their arcade, and it looks like a good one. We’re leaving behind the explosive nature of Fireworks Megaways but not quite saying goodbye to explosive wins as we meet a variety of furry creatures in Trigger Happy.

With RTP options available up to 96.58%, this highly volatile release can produce wins up to 50,000x bet.

Trigger Happy Base Game

We’re greeted with a really fun scene in this release, as we find ourselves in the middle of an arcade. Balloons float around the top of this room and a variety of arcade games are placed around the edge, with signs on each of them including Lil’ Devil, Bonanza and Donuts. The toys inside each match their namesake symbols, and the lights flicker and flash to draw our attention in a variety of directions.

Little can draw our attention away from the reels though, which are housed within the largest arcade machine in the centre of the room and filled with a variety of very cute but quite odd fuzzy creatures, each with their own expression. It’s all finished off with an animated soundtrack, littered with laser and arcade sounds.

Trigger Happy Base Features

Taking place on a 5×5 grid, wins are formed on Trigger Happy by matching clusters of at least 5 symbols touching horizontally or vertically. Symbols pay for 5-6, 7-8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15+, and aren’t very distinctively split into non premiums and premiums.

It seems non premiums are those creatures that do not have mouths – light blue and yellow fluff balls (which we’ll just call fluffs because what else can we call them?), awarding wins between 0.10 and 10x bet for clusters between 5 and 15+ in view.

Orange fluffs, despite not having mouths, match in value to one of our premiums, the green fluff. Each of these award wins between 0.15 and 15x bet for cluster sizes between 5 and 15+.

Blue and red fluffs are up next, awarding wins of 0.25 and 0.3x bet respectively for clusters of 5, increasing to values of 20 and 50x bet respectively for clusters of 15+ in view.

Purple fluffs are the highest paying symbol, awarding wins between 0.50 and 50x bet, again for cluster sizes between 5 and 15+. Finally, rainbow fluff Wild symbols are available to substitute for all regular paying symbols.

Reactions

The first thing to cover in Trigger Happy is reactions.

On every spin, all symbols involved in a winning combination will be removed from the grid, with all remaining symbols dropping down to the bottommost available position on their respective reels.

New symbols will then drop in from above to fill the remaining gaps, with reactions continuing until no new wins are formed.

Target Wild

Next up is the Target Wild feature.

On every spin and every reaction, a Target will place a Wild symbol in a random grid position.

Wild symbols substitute for all regular paying symbols.

Align Multipliers With the Target to Apply the Values to the Wild Symbols

Bonus Panels

Working hand in hand with reactions and Target Wilds are the Bonus Panels.

There is a panel to the left of the grid and underneath the grid.

On every spin, both Bonus Panels can reveal the following:

• Multipliers – if multipliers align with a Target’s final position the value will be applied to the Wild symbol that is added.
• Bombs – remove all symbols from their row or column, adding up to four Wild symbols in their place.
• Trigger Coins – if a Target’s final position aligns with a Trigger Coin in both Bonus Panels, Free Spins are awarded.

Win Exchange

The last feature to cover in the base game of Trigger Happy is Win Exchange. With Win Exchange, whenever you win 100x bet or more, you have the option to exchange 100x bet for 8 Free Spins. If you have won more than 100x bet, only 100x bet will be exchanged, and the remainder will be added to your bonus win.

If you win between 25 and 99x bet, you have the option to exchange the entire win for a chance to be awarded 8 Free Spins by gambling. The chance of winning the gamble is represented by green on the wheel, and the chance of losing is represented by red.

The higher x bet the win, the more green will be present on the wheel.

During Free Spins There are 2 Targets That Place Wild Symbols on the Grid

Trigger Happy Bonus

Aligning a Trigger Coin in both Bonus Panels with the final Target position will award 8 Free Spins.

During Free Spins there are two Targets which each add a Wild symbol to the grid on every spin and reaction.

Bonus Panels continue to behave as they do in the base game, except multipliers will now be higher, with minimum values of x4 rather than x2.

If a Target’s final position aligns with a Trigger Coin in both Bonus Panels during Free Spins an additional +3 spins are awarded.

Bonus Buy

Players in appropriate regions can skip straight to the action with the option to use Bonus Buy. By paying a cost of 100x bet players are guaranteed 8 Free Spins.

RTP does not change when using Bonus Buy.

Whilst Big Time Gaming usually opt not to place a win cap on their games, the maximum win observed so far in Trigger Happy has been 50,000x bet.

Trigger Happy Free Spins

First Impression

After a few fairly underwhelming releases, Fireworks Megaways and Trigger Happy feel like a bit of a return to form for this team. This is one of the most interesting settings they’ve tackled in a while, with audiovisuals immediately capturing your attention from the moment you load the game.

In the base game, Bonus Panels work alongside Target Wilds to produce Wild symbols and potentially add multipliers, remove symbols and add up to 4 Wilds, or trigger Free Spins. It’s all quite simple, but it works.

Once Free Spins begin things are amped up a bit, with minimum multiplier values of x4, and two Target Wilds on every spin, which certainly helps things to feel more exciting. Although there’s nothing in the game information to support this, it does also seem from our experience like multipliers and bombs are more common within the Free Spins feature. When the right combinations occur, wins are possible up to 50,000x bet.

Finally, maths is highly volatile and RTP options are available up to 96.58%, so as always it’s worth checking this. There’s plenty happening in Trigger Happy to keep you excited, made better by great graphics and a unique theme, so it’s definitely one to try.
