Loner from Nolimit City comes hot off the heels of Kenneth Must Die to give us a hearty dose of Nolimit City edge once again, but this time from the perspective of a social outcast. The shift from a doting suburban husband and father with a proclivity for naughtiness to a sad couch potato is quite the contrast. 

In Loner, formerly white unwashed Y-fronts, calorific food and an unfounded disdain for lack of female interest is our new reality. Not even Beefy would touch this man with his 10-foot toy, and who could blame him? He sits and consumes both content and food as he meanders his way through an unremarkable existence with only consumerism to keep him company. 

Is Loner the story of a dangerous man? or is it merely a sad look at a man trapped in the suffocating embrace of his own isolation? 

Loner is the latest to join the ranks of Nolimit City’s extremely (10) volatile portfolio, and it’s bound to turn a few heads like others in the critically acclaimed NLC catalogue. 

Loner Base Features

Loner is a 5 reel slot with 243 win ways. A winning combination of at least 3 of the same symbol pays from leftmost to right on adjacent reels. 

The configuration of the reels looks rather standard, unlike some of Nolimt City slots which employ less common configurations. 

The payout for symbols ranges from 5x to 0.2x for the highest and lowest paying symbols respectively, but extra features exist to exponentially increase the payout potential. 

Big Wild

The Big Wild Feature introduces a 2×2 or 3×3 Big Wild symbol that may land fully stacked or partially on reels 2-4. 

This may occur on any win, and the xSplit feature may split the Big Wild.

Monitors 

The monitor symbol may land on reels 1, 3 and 5.

The following symbols will be revealed if 1 or 2 monitor symbols land anywhere in view:

• Wild – This is a regular 1×1 Wild Symbol
• xSplit – The xSplit symbol splits all other symbols to the left and right, doubling the value of that symbol. The xSplit symbol will turn into a wild, but will not split monitor symbols
• Infectious xWays – This transforms a normal paying symbol of size 2-4. It infects all other occurrences of that symbol that are present on the reels, turning them into 2-4 size symbols also. Infected symbols may also be split by the xSplit symbol
• Max Win – Triggers a Max Win 

Landing 3 monitor symbols will trigger one of the following bonus rounds or a max win

This feature is triggered when the 3 monitors reveal PIN THE WIN. 

The Pin the Win logo moves around the game area, and increases its multiplier by 1-500 when it hits anything but a corner. The wins displayed in the corners are 1x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1000x and Max Win

This feature is triggered when the 3 monitors reveal SHOOT SHOOT DUCK.

The Shoot Shoot Duck starts with 5 shots, and rewards are collected when the ducks are shot. 

The Duck Symbols contain the following: 

• Symbols: The symbols award a reward between 1x-1000x the bet
• Bomb: The Bomb collects all visible awards when shot
• Ammo Clip: This resets the available shots back to 5

First Impression

The only predictable thing about Nolimit City is the hilarity that comes with seemingly each and every slot. Few are quite as industrious as Nolimit City, and nobody is as bold. 

The character in Loner wouldn’t look out of place in Land of the Free – maybe he’s a distant relative, or maybe he really is a loner, destined to spend a solitary existence trapped by the crushing grips of consumerism. The corporate machine hates him and he knows they do, but he’ll buy it anyway. At least a bleak look into a miserable life entertains everyone else, though we’re not sure if that speaks volumes of us. 

Loner is a slot that doesn’t follow a particular trajectory. It doesn’t build upon an idea like DJ Psycho did with The Rave, and it’s not an obvious continuation of a story like Folsom Prison was to San Quentin. It’s fairly unique, and the bonus rounds here are not ‘Free Spins’ but something else entirely. In some ways, they look underwhelming, but there’s plenty under the hood that makes them all quite capable, especially as each of them presents an opportunity for a Max Win. 

Of all the features, the Shoot Shoot Duck stood out as the most capable. This is reflected in the price of the buy as well, and with a quick yet risky option for the xGod buy, max wins may be quite frequent here in Loner. It’s still up for debate whether these ‘max win or not’ features add or take away from the experience. 

Statistically, Loner offers up one of Nolimit City’s smaller max wins at 14,999x. Though fairly low by their standards, it’s still substantially more than what other providers offer. 

Overall, Loner is another winner in our eyes. We don’t think it has the right stuff to be quite as popular as Kenneth Must Die, but it’s certainly no loser…unlike the character it’s themed upon.
