Play’n Go are known for producing games that tend to be on the easier side when it comes to triggering a feature. When we consider releases such as Wild North or Golden Colts we think of a quick bonus, even though the rewards might not be plentiful. However, there is another release within their extensive catalogue frequently regarded as quick to trigger – The Sword and The Grail, a summer 2019 release. Coincidentally, this is the game we think of straight away when we look at the imagery of Diamonds of The Realm, an upcoming release from Play’n GO, and what we can only assume is now part of an unofficial series. Although no demo play is available yet, and we only have one image, we do know the features available within this release, and what players should be on the look out for to be in with a chance of hitting the maximum win of 20,000x bet. Let’s take a look at the features on offer in this high volatility, 96.23% RTP release.
Visually, things are dark, and quite mysterious, with the reels set in front of a large castle, with roaring amber lights behind each window. Features and general game play match thematically with The Green Knight, although the overall imagery matches more to The Sword and The Grail, with symbols available being nearly identical, and although we haven’t had access to demo play as of yet, we imagine the music from the 2019 release would fit perfectly with this imagery, so we’re hoping not too many tweaks have been made on the audio side of things.
We did mention RTP sitting at 96.23%, but it is worth noting – this is the default value, and other settings are available, dipping as low as 84.27%. Not a problem in every region or licensing jurisdiction, but something to be wary of. It never hurts to check the RTP before taking a spin.
Diamonds of The Realm Base Features
Taking place across 5 reels, with 3 symbols on each, Diamonds of the Realm features 20 fixed pay lines, with wins formed from matching 3+ of a kind across at least 1 line. Symbols involved in these wins include lower paying T, J, Q, K and As, rewarding players between 2 and 4x bet for 5 of a kind. At the higher end of the pay table, Mordred and Morgan award players 7.5x bet each for 5 of a kind, whilst landing a 5 of a kind line of Queen Guinevere pays out 12.5x bet, again for 5 of a kind. King Arthur pays 100x bet for 5 of a kind – the same value as 5 of a kind wilds will get you, which replace all symbols except Scatters, represented by diamonds, and capable of landing on any reel.
During any spin the win multiplier can activate, and can have values of x2, x5, x10 or x100. If any winning combination forms on this spin, the win amount will be multiplied by the active win multiplier.
Diamonds of The Realm Bonus
Landing 3+ diamond Scatter symbols triggers 5 initial free spins, wherein the win multiplier is always active, starting at x2. The goal of free spins is to collect diamonds, with progression occurring as diamonds are collected:
- 6 Diamonds: +5 free spins are awarded, and the win multiplier will increase to x5 for all remaining free spins.
- 12 Diamonds: +5 free spins are awarded, and the win multiplier will increase to x10 for all remaining free spins.
- 18 Diamonds: +5 free spins are awarded, and the win multiplier will increase to x100 for all remaining free spins.
Diamond collection includes the diamonds that were used to trigger free spins, and once 18 have been collected diamonds are removed from the reels and additional free spins cannot be won.
First Impression
The Sword and The Grail is, in our experience, one of the most commonly requested releases under Play’n GO’s belt, with many considering it to be “a quick bonus”. Quick it is, indeed, but high volatility labels are attached, meaning what we’re really hoping for, in reaching the 100x wild multiplier, is the one part of The Sword and The Grail that will not be quick. Diamonds of The Realm could quite easily be branded a sequel, or a reskin of The Sword and The Grail, although in this edition the heat has been turned up even further, with volatility quoted as “very high” by Play’n GO, and rated 10/10. To add to the excitement, the maximum win available is now doubled to a huge 20,000x.
Fans of releases such as The Sword and The Grail or The Green Knight will take delight in another being added to the series, especially with potential being kicked up even further, whereas those who feel the previous releases fell short might not be charmed by Diamonds of The Realm, as the general game play is more or less the same.
What will perhaps be the turning point of this release comparatively, is an overall win multiplier rather than wilds that contain multipliers. We have all felt the heartache of failing to reach x100, and with such a task at hand to reach the final level, waiting for wilds to land during those spins, and line up in the correct way makes things even more difficult. Now, any win in view will be multiplied by the active values, taking the excitement up a notch, especially with regular wilds still in play.
